The purpose of the Equality Act (2010) was to collate the many existing anti-discrimination laws (e.g. The Equal Pay Act, 1970; Sex Discrimination Act, 1975; the Race Relations Act, 1976; the Disability Act, 1995). In addition, the Equality Act incorporates protection against discrimination in employment in relation to age, religion or belief, and sexual orientation. In essence, the Equality Act requires that people are treated equally in relation to access to employment and services.
