There is a lot of evidence to indicate that young people from specific backgrounds are more likely to have mental health problems, and that these groups find it especially hard to access services.

Within equality of opportunity, service providers and staff who work with young people need to make extra efforts to meet the needs of these groups.

There are a number of potential barriers for people who try and access services. A number of areas of commonality are found in terms of how access to services for 'hard to reach' individuals and groups could be improved [3]. (See session Vulnerable Groups-An Overview (410-043)).

People having bad experiences in the past. Location and opening times of services. How services are funded and managed.
Respectful treatment of service users. Establishing trust with service users. Offering service flexibility. Partnership working with other organisations. Harnessing service user involvement.
