- [Retired] Cultural Competence in Counselling

- This session is aimed at a specialist audience: trainee and practising counsellors. It provides an introduction to cultural competence and its importance in counselling children and young people. It invites learners to reflect on key aspects of their own culture, and introduces frameworks that describe how cultural identities are formed. This session also highlights some of the ways in which stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination can impact on the lives of young people, and emphasises the importance of acknowledging difference within the counselling room. This session provides tools to enable continuing reflective practice in this area.
